Immersed in nature, children thrive!  Join us for three days of fun, adventure and connection to nature.

Your kids will create friendships, get down and dirty, learn valuable lifelong skills and most importantly get ReWild at this exciting outdoor school holiday workshop!

Learn the art of bush survival and skills such as creating fire with flint and steel, fire by friction (rubbing sticks), shelter making, rope work, navigation, bush craft, animal tracking, nature awareness, and wilderness skills

Come for 1, 2 or 3 days, the choice is yours.

New skills and games are learned daily. Skills such as fire lighting will be covered on all three days, giving your child the potential to advance their fire creating skills from flint and steel to bow drill.

Taste the Tweed in Murwillumbah

Immerse yourself in Taste the Tweed, a celebration of local food and food culture brought to you by Tweed Foodie Fest.

For one night only, the main street of Murwillumbah will be transformed into a vibrant marketplace of food stalls, showcasing the fresh produce and gastronomic diversity of the Tweed.

As you meander up the street, local restaurants will serve up tasting plates for $6 and $12, allowing you to experience the tastes and talents of the Tweed in a progressive dinner style.

Entry to the festival is free, but the best way to enjoy the night is to book a table for you and your friends to settle in, share good food and conversation and enjoy the live music and marketplace atmosphere.

Seating is $15 per person and must be booked in advance.  We recommend you also pre-purchase some $6 coupons to use as currency on the night.

Cash is not accepted at any of the stalls, so purchase your coupons online before you come, or bring cash (only) on the night to purchase from our coupon stands.

Please note that no EFTPOS or credit card facilities will be available for coupon purchases on the night – but there are a number of ATMs in town. 

This event is delivered by Tweed Foodie Fest, in conjunction with Destination Tweed, under the Taste the Tweed banner which aims to promote the diverse array of quality food and beverage produced here in the Tweed.

Jasmin from Cakes Glorious Cakes Bakery and finalist on The Great Australian Bake Off 2015 is sharing her knowledge, secrets and recipes in her new and exciting workshops coming to the Tweed!

In this modern cake decorating workshop you’ll learn buttercream skills covering everything from semi-naked cakes to fully covered cakes with watercolour effect and chocolate ganache drips.  Learn how to use different piping nozzles including the swirled rose and petal effect.

Jasmin will show you how to make a basic American buttercream perfect for frosting cakes at home and decorate the tops of your cakes in your own style, from fun and funky to classically modern.

At this workshop you can have your cake and eat it too,  as you get to take your cake home with you once you’ve stacked, frosted and decorated it!

Sourdough Bread & Cultured Butter Cooking Class

Join us for a day of baking and culturing where you will learn how to create, feed and care for your own everlasting rye sourdough starter, and from this make fresh sourdough breads, fruit buns, sourdough pancakes, crackers and more.

Sourdough or leaven is a traditional method of bread making which provides rise, digestibility and a beautiful natural sour flavour to breads.

Culturing will also be on the agenda as we explore techniques for cultured cream, including dairy kefir and crème fraiche to be made into delicious home-made butter and served with our fresh loaves.

This class includes a hands-on component for mixing and kneading dough- to be taken home and baked in your own oven.

All students will receive:

  • a workbook with detailed recipes and instructions for all recipes
  • their own sourdough culture to take home
  • live dairy kefir SCOBY (when available)
  • A just-made dough to take home and prove then bake at home

Places limited to 10.  Morning tea and lunch provided.

Wild Fermentation Cooking Class

In Wild Fermentation cooking class you will discover a new world of food, deliciousness and an age-old preserving technique, as together we will capture cultures and make some delicious ferments.

Cultured, lacto-fermented and wild fermented foods are said to prevent illness, improve your digestion, and strengthen your immunity and overall health.

These easily prepared foods are nutrient-enhanced and necessary to maintain healthy bacteria in the gut – essential for your digestion and vitality!

In class we will make and taste over a dozen different recipes from effervescent fermented drinks (berry kvass, ginger-citrus beet kvass) to delicious-sour cultured foods (sauerkraut, pickled cucumbers, brine fermented vegetables). We will also discuss how to prepare and care for water and dairy kefir SCOBYs to make delicious cultured dairy (milk, cream and butter) and natural sparkling drinks.

There will be a light lunch, starters to share (when available) and all students will be able to sample all ferments made in class.

Students will also receive:

  • a workbook with detailed recipes and instructions for all recipes
  • a resource list for finding kraut making supplies, starters and equipment
  • a jar of just-made bubbling kraut

A truly delicious and nourishing gluten free baking class where you will learn the fundamentals of baking with gluten free wholefood flours and less-refined sweeteners.

This class is for anyone wishing to gain an understanding of how gluten free flours work, how to blend them for the best results (flavour and texture), and how to avoid using less wholesome refined alternatives.

We will make a range of pretty cakes from perfect gluten free muffins to celebrations cakes.

Recipes Include:

  • Basic muffin recipe (build your own muffins).
  • Coconut banana bread.
  • Almond butter cake.
  • Lemon, rice and polenta cake.
  • Gluten free brownies.
  • A gorgeous caramel upside down cake with seasonal fruit.

On Saturday 12 November the Bilambil Public School grounds will be transformed for the Bilambil Community Fair.

The picturesque Tweed River Jockey Club Murwillumbah Racecourse is the setting for a fun filled day that’s sure to impress the whole family.

From 11am-4pm, browse the beautiful market stalls, which will have all your favourite items from gorgeous homemade clothing for babies, kids and adults to homewares and so much more.

Food vendors will be on site to cater everyone’s tastes including fresh organics, amazing Mexican and wonderful treats.

While you browse or sit back and relax under the trees, you can enjoy local live music. In between sets you may find some local kids showcasing their talents too.

With all this entertaining the big kids, the little ones will be off on the jumping castle, face painting, arts and crafts or checking out the local fire truck on site. Elmo will even pop in for a visit.

Enter the raffles with huge prizes including a trip to Fiji.  It’s all to raise much needed funds for Tweed Hospital Special Care Nursery.

Tumbulgum Celebrates 150 Years / Tweed River Festival

In 2016 the Tweed River Festival comes to Tumbulgum to celebrate 150 years of the village at the junction of the Tweed and Rous Rivers.

The entertainment program is packed full of great local artists performing on the main stage, in the Tumbulgum Hall, at Living Waters Church and along the river bank, all free to the community!

There’ll be street performers Hoopla Circus and Roving Butterflies, face painting, balloon artists, weaving workshops by Helle Jorgensen, primitive skills demonstrations by Owen Builds the Fire, a guided Heritage Trail through Tumbulgum Village, historical display and more in the 1913 heritage listed Tumbulgum Hall, river cruises with Mt Warning Tours and Endeavour Cruises, lantern workshop, and much more.

The Village boasts four great eateries along Riverside Drive plus a general store. The locals and additional food and beverage vendors will cater for all tastes. Enjoy!

Performers include: Seven Deadly Swings, Lissy Stanton Band, Cadillac Rockers, Mohini Cox, Kazah Duo,  Voice Weavers,  Arte Gitana, and more.

Eat, drink and be merry – that’s how we celebrate the festive season here in the Tweed.

Join us for the always popular Tweed Foodie Fest Longest Dinner Party in the main street of Murwillumbah.  

It’s all part of  Taste the Tweed, a celebration of local food and food culture brought to you by Tweed Foodie Fest.

The main street of Murwillumbah will be transformed into a celebration of local food and food culture, from our hardworking farmers and artisans to our talented local chefs and restaurateurs.

Make your way through the numerous food stalls showcasing the fresh produce and gastronomic diversity of the Tweed and sample tasting plates for $6 and $12, allowing you to experience the tastes and talents of the Tweed in a progressive dinner style.

Entry to the festival is free, but the best way to enjoy the night is to book a table for you and your friends to settle in, share good food and conversation and enjoy the live music and marketplace atmosphere.

Seating is $15 per person and must be booked in advance.  We recommend you also pre-purchase some $6 coupons to use as currency on the night.

Prizes will be awarded for the best decorated tables, so get creative, start planning early and go all out!

Cash is not accepted at any of the stalls, so purchase your coupons online before you come, or bring cash (only) on the night to purchase from our coupon stands.

Please note that no EFTPOS or credit card facilities will be available for coupon purchases on the night – but there are a number of ATMs in town.

Morning Yoga with Julia

On Tuesday and Sunday mornings, join your instructor Julia for a light-hearted, flowing and inspiring yoga session in the peaceful natural surrounds of Mt Warning Rainforest Park.

Julia teaches yoga in a fun safe and playful way.  Her classes include flowing vinyasa sequences as well as alignment work, including working with props.

Julia says:

I want to inspire others to see the light within themselves and celebrate life in all aspects.

I believe in the tantric philosophy that teaches that all beings are inherently good and the intention to bring the lessons learned in yoga class into daily life.  

I have the aspiration to re-connect with nature and open your eyes for the beauty within yourself and around you as well as mindful awareness of how the body’s parts are integrated and connected.

Julia is also a certified sport and health teacher, pilates instructor, Yoga Alliance qualified yoga teacher and Reiki master.
