16th Tweed Antiques & Collectables Fair

The 16th Tweed Antiques & Collectables Fair is an annual event not to be missed. The Fair, presented by the Tweed Gold Coast Family History & Heritage Association, brings together a fine group of antiques & collectables dealers from all over New South Wales and Queensland.

The Fair will offer a fantastic array of antiques, collectables, fine china, ceramics, jewellery, furniture and many other items of interest for purchase. There will be something to appeal to the discerning collector, the enthusiastic decorator or the lover of antique and vintage items.

The Fair will be held at the Tweed Heads Civic Centre, which is located next door to the Tweed Heads Bowls Club in Wharf Street, Tweed Heads. Doors will be open at 9am-5pm on Saturday 9 August and 10am-3pm on Sunday, 10 August. Entry fee is $5, with children under the age of 12 admitted for free.

Also on display will be the fine work of artist Michael McMahon and a family history display for those who are curious about this fascinating and addictive hobby.

Refreshments will be available all weekend.

Welcome to the 2nd annual Misty Mountain Trail Run event.  Run inside a giant shield volcano!  This is a fun and challenging event open to all ages 12 years+.

The Misty Mountain Trail Run (Inter-action/Outward bound/Mebbin springs) 3000 acre private property is inside the magnificent Wollumbin (Mt Warning) volcanic caldera. This stunning area encompasses the massive 20 million year old shield volcano with surrounding views of the outer rim in every direction. From this area you can clearly see Mt Warning (Wollumbin) and the impressive 600m high crater wall reaching up into the Border Ranges National Park.

This is a running event but we welcome anyone who wishes to Walk or Speed/Walk the events. The walkers will start in a wave behind the runners wave.

Tyalgum Music Festival

The Tyalgum Music Festival will be held on 12-14 September this year, once again drawing music lovers from all around Queensland and New South Wales to Coolman Street.

This year’s program will include seven wonderful Main Hall concerts – a chance to hear world-class artists in the excellent acoustics and intimate setting of our Century-old Tyalgum Community Hall. An array of outdoor events and  surrounding venues are also planned to make for a wonderful weekend of entertainment

Featuring Australia’s premiere vocal ensemble, the Song Company and the Lunaire Collective together with Brisbane’s  Jazz Trio Trichotomy present “Illuminations”. Tamara Anna Cislowska will appear as solo piano recitalist and together with violinist, Anna McMichael will perform a Lullaby programme with film that recently received 4 stars in The Australian and Limelight and Cd of the week on ABC Classic fm. Other guests include the Queensland Conservatorium Brazilian Jazz Band and a Festival Closing Gala featuring the Camerata of St. Johns performing the final celebration concert on Sunday 14th September. They are a much loved group at the Tyalgum Music Festival and by popular demand we are very happy to welcome them back!

The 114th Murwillumbah Show is on the 31st October and 1st November 2014.  There will be plenty of free entertainment available with live bands playing on both Friday and Saturday nights, a Rodeo on Friday night and a trotting programme on Saturday afternoon just to name a few.  Come along and enjoy sideshow alley and the amazing fireworks display on Saturday evening.

The local youth are encouraged to get involved with many activities designed for the young including the Junior Led Steer competition, the Showgirl and Junior Showgirl competitions, a Young Farmers Challenge, Pavilion displays and the ever popular School’s relay on Friday.

The normal show interests will be there – dogs, beef cattle, commercial cattle, dairy cattle, horses, showjumping, arts and crafts, sheep shearing, stud sheep, poultry, livestock, sugar cane, bananas, etc.

The market offers the freshest seasonally available fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy, cheese (including goats cheese and milk), locally caught seafood, olives, macadamia and pecan nuts, honey, avocados, oz rice, salad greens, organic and free eggs, freshly baked bread, and much more. There is also a selection of certified organic produce. In conversion to organic status are our beef and pork from our local farmer and Nimbin Valley Dairy.

Crowds start in Tweed Heads, celebrating the first stroke of midnight with fireworks on the NSW side of the border then pour across the road to Coolangatta to celebrate again in Queensland one hour later.

Why not celebrate Australia Day in one of the best parts of Australia…the Tweed!

The tweed region holds a array of activities to celebrate Australia Day.

Some of the organised locations and activities include:

- Tyalgum will start with their traditional street parade, followed by  traditional cricket match which will be played at Bruce Bartrim Oval and the day’s final event will be the Tyalgum Cup Cycle race starting in front of Tyalgum Store.

-  Pottsville will hold a family and community fun and games day. Pottsville Beach Sports Club will also host a number of family oriented events culminating in an award presentation at the end of the day’s proceedings.

- Tweed Heads’ Chris Cunningham Park will be the location for a number of special community events featuring a range of activities for kids of all ages.

- Lions Park at Marine Pde in Kingscliff will host the annual Kingscliff Lions Club Australia Day Aussie Breakfast and flag raising ceremony.

- Tumbulgum will host the town’s annual barbecue breakfast, flag raising, award presentation and entertainment at Brian Breckenridge Field.
