Tweed Ball Series 2017
29 April 2017 - 5 August 2017

Tweed Ball Series 2017

Join the fun and spectacle of a Tweed Valley country tradition at the Miss Tweed Ball Series 2017.

This is the 46th year of the Tweed Ball Series run by the Tweed Combined Country Halls Association, a voluntary group that runs the series not-for–profit.  There are nine local halls in the series this year and we look forward to meeting new and old faces on the dance floor.

  • 29 April        Stokers/Dunbible
  • 6 May            Pottsville
  • 13 May          Bilambil
  • 20 May          Tumbulgum
  • 27 May          Burringbar
  • 3 June           Crystal Creek
  • 17 June         Uki
  • 24 June         Tyalgum
  • 29 July          Chillingham
  • 5 August       Final ball

The evenings start at 8pm and tickets are available at the door.

The evening is planned to have something for all the family with no alcohol.  The dances are mainly ‘old time’ with a few new vogue, a short set of rock’n’roll, and some old favourite line dances.  The dress code is semi-formal, but many of the girls go formal.  You may participate in the title dance which is a Pride of Erin, or choose to just watch.  After the titles dance there is a supper break provided by the local hall included in your admission price.  The evenings conclude at midnight.  The music is provided by the band Trilogy.

Anyone interested in entering the competition should contact Robyn Lemaire, Publicity Officer Tweed Combined Country Halls Association (TCCHA) on 0400 368 350.

Much Ado About Nothing
1 July 2017

Much Ado About Nothing

Flutterbies presents its third immersive Shakespeare production with The Bard’s most loved romantic comedy Much Ado About Nothing.

Claudio and Hero are deeply in love. Beatrice and Benedick are deeply in denial. All is well. Then Claudio humiliates Hero. Hero has a fainting attack and pretends to die. And Beatrice and Benedick join forces with a vengeance. And that’s just up to the interval! If it sounds complicated, well, that’s love for you – a trip down the aisle is never a straight one. When you delve into other people’s relationships you soon learn the real cost of commitment – what we will do and what we won’t do for that capricious and often elusive thing called love.

With its unique charm and quick wit, Much Ado About Nothing is sure to be a great night of entertainment for everyone.

Bookings essential as seating is limited. Ticket price includes banquet style dinner, a glass of mulled wine on arrival and the play.  Call 02 6679 3221 to book your table.

Salon de Sketchy

Here’s an art class experience with a difference: an adults-only life drawing evening where the models are performers from the worlds of burlesque, circus, striptease, music, dance, theatre, and various exotic subcultures.

Hosted monthly in Sugarmill Studio in Murwillumbah, these self-guided life drawing events feature 5, 10, 15 and 20 minute static model poses, where you draw at your own pace in a relaxed, fun atmosphere with mellow music.

The audience also gets to see the model perform a live five-minute show – it could be a fan dance, a striptease, or a handstand balancing act.

You don’t have to be an artist to join in at Salon de Sketchy, beginners are welcome! Please bring your own pencils and paper.

We have had some amazing artists so far this year! Burlesque artists Lena Marlene and Cello Bordello, hula hoop artist Ginger Spin Ninja, handstand artist Li Pawson, circus artist Sera Tonin and Blueberry the clown.  All in downtown Murwillumbah!
