We love the creative juices that flow freely in the Tweed, like seriously who came up with a death by avocado picnic degustation by chance. The lively folk at Tropical Fruit World (TFW) of course- perched high atop of the Cudgen plateau with views across the lush valley to Wollumbin Mt Warning over yonder.
A Tweed institution for many a decade TFW has been at the helm of growing and producing the finest of local produce. From exotic (never heard of) tropical fruits to the ever popular finger lime, juicy mangoes and there’s always an abundance of avocados in season.
Head Chef Chey lives and breathes the Tweed Valley and has worked across the globe but insists he has never seen the array of exotic fruits that are available at TFW. He’s impressed by the quality of the farms produce and likes to turn things like avocados on their head- out of the box style.
Start with an avocado 5 slider with an array of sauces like house made spiced dukkah with macadamias, wattle seed and lemon myrtle. Main course includes a Tumbulgum smoked chicken dish with lashings of fresh avocado and top it all off with a creamy avocado and fresh nougat dessert.
This delicious garden soiree will pop up in the farms avocado field, set amongst the luscious Tropical Fruit World surrounds. The Tweed Artisan Food Weekend profiles the rich flavours of the region along with the humble farmer, proud producer and innovative restaurateur.
Proudly supported by industry members and Destination Tweed who recently launched the Tweed Culinary Collective-keep an eye out for more seasonal food events that will pop up throughout the year.
