Tweed Ball Series 2018

Tweed Ball Series Background

This is the 47th year of the Tweed Ball Series run by the Tweed Combined Country Halls Association, a voluntary group that runs the series not-for–profit, with the proceeds going to the local Hall.  There are nine Balls in the series this year and we look forward to meeting new and familiar faces on the dance floor.

The evenings start at 8pm and tickets are available at the door, adults $10, 13-17 years $5, 3-12 years $2, this includes supper.  The evening is planned to have something for all the family with no alcohol.  The dances are mainly ‘old time’ with a few new vogue, a short set of rock’n’roll, and some old favourite line dances.  The dress code is semi-formal, but many of the girls go formal.  You may participate in the title dance which is a Pride of Erin, or choose to just watch.  After the titles dance there is a supper break provided by the local hall included in your admission price.  The evenings conclude between 11.30 and midnight.  The live music is provided by the band Trilogy.

For those interested in entering the competition they need to be prepared to attend the Final Ball on August 11th 2018, and if declared the Tweed winners come to the Series in 2019.  The age and categories are;

World Premiere of new Musical “FRED”
29 June 2018 - 15 July 2018

World Premiere of new Musical “FRED”

Have you ever been part of a world premiere audience? Here’s your chance!

The Tweed Theatre Company will premiere a brand new stage musical at a Gala Opening Night on Friday 29th June at the Tweed Heads Civic Centre.
The book musical, FRED, is the latest offering from Sydney based writer/composer Wendy Waters, formerly of Mt Tamborine. FRED follows on from Wendy’s earlier musicals Sheherazade, Goddesses and Alexander. It is themed around the concept of urban loneliness and has brilliant music and four wonderful characters.
Three very different women all live next door to each other in an inner-city apartment block. They all live alone and depend on an outside, unavailable person for intimacy. They never really develop relationships with each other until the power in the building fails and an electrician called FRED is sent to fix it. As he works on the sockets and fixtures he counsels each woman and formulates a plan to fix their lives.

************************************************************************************************
ALISON CHURCH
20something single girl who inherited her apartment from her brother who died of cancer the year before. Her parents are also dead and she clings to her only friend Cheryl. When she meets and falls for a man at the mall she fantasises of a relationship with him and sets about exercising so he’ll ask her out.
MAUREEN PARMIGER
50something widow has a long standing lover who won’t commit to a more definite relationship. Her son also has issues which impact on her state of mind. She still talks to her dead husband as if he were still there and a combination of these factors causes her to take desperate action.
EMMA PAULY
60something Emma is an artist who is in the early stages of Alzheimers disease and longs to reconcile with her estranged daughter and paint her masterpiece before she loses her mind. She has lived a chaotic nomadic lifestyle and this is reflected in her attitude and surroundings.
FRED
Fred is by most accounts an electrician tradesman, though he might also be an angel. At least, that is, to Alison, Maureen and Emma.

We want people to feel inspired and re-discover what it is to cooperate, and what is possible when you live from the point of view of Heart.

In 2018 we will be fundraising to help take our local campgrounds off grid, donating all funds raised towards solar panels to help reduce our village footprint on into the future. The weekend will include many fun fundraising events and raffles to help us achieve our goal!

O’Heart Festival delights in acknowledging and embracing the indigenous tribes and traditional owners of our area, the Bundjalung Nation, and the Minjungbal people. We want to be a part of the healing of what has gone before – moving beyond the past actions of humankind and creating new networks for healing, growth and unity.

This not-for-profit festival will remain a single use plastic-free event with solar powered stages and a zero waist aim, all the while giving people education and encouragement to change little actions that have a big environmental impact.
