Many of us used the COVID-19 lockdown to dabble in art, pulling out our paint brushes, drawing pencils, or knitting needles. If you want to see what the professionals did while we were making lopsided scarves, come and visit M|Arts Precinct in Murwillumbah where the artists are back in their studios and the Galleries, Bacaro restaurant and creative businesses are open for business.
M|Arts Precinct consists of a huge industrial warehouse filled with funky artist studios (many of them in shipping containers) and stores selling creative supplies plus galleries which are housed in a beautiful art-deco building. It is in the heart of Murwillumbah, a lovely little riverside town, just a 40 minute drive from Byron Bay and 30 minutes from the Gold Coast.
Visit “Gallery DownTown”
An Annexe of the Tweed Regional Art Gallery and Margaret Olley Art Centre
Visitors are welcome again at Gallery DownTown at M|Arts Precinct – which displays works of Australian Art from the Tweed Regional Art Gallery and Margaret Olley Art Centre. You can also see the three new exhibitions from local artists Kathy Mackey, Annie Long and Rae Saheli. Restrictions on numbers of gallery visitors are still in place, but simply drop in and we’ll arrange for you to have a look around.
Buy Direct from some of the Tweed Region’s Best Artists
You can buy as well as look at M|Arts Precinct. Come and stroll through the Precinct, watch artists at work, or buy an original work of art, hand-made jewellery, or art books from one of the local creatives.
Have you seen 2019’s Swell Sculpture Festival Winner?
If you missed last year’s Swell Sculpture Festival on the beach at Currumbin, come and say hello to the winner “Prickles – a giant orange barbed wire teddy bear now happily perched on the roof of the M|Arts Precinct. Don’t forget though to look right down the back of the M|Arts Precinct to see another huge piece by one of the same sculptors – this one is a giant wooden rat.
Buy Flowers, Art Supplies, Yarn, Board Games or get your Framing Done.
A bunch of flowers from Flowerista, the Tweed Regions’ best florist, are a great way to brighten up someone’s post COVID world.
Yellow Brick Studio can provide all your art supplies – or help you to enrol in an art class held in M|Arts Precinct. Winter crafts are sorted at Mill and Make which has a collection of fabulous yarns, needles and patterns to inspire you. Drop into Cracklepoint Games for school holiday activities – they have the region’s best selection of board games, both to play in-store or to buy for home. If you want to re-energise your sewing or wardrobe have a chat to the Shire Seamstress about a sewing class. One of the Best Italian Restaurants in the Tweed Region
We are all holidaying close to home this year, but a coffee or a meal at Bacaro will have you feeling like you are in a little trattoria in Venice, which is where the owners Georgia and Luca hail from. They are sitting 20 people both indoors and outdoors and serving all their specialties that everyone missed over the lockdown.
